English is the official language and works for government, permits, and most written business communication. National consumer instruments often need Oshiwambo languages, Afrikaans, Otjiherero, Nama or Damara, and Rukwangali support, depending on the sample. Translation plans should account for oral administration in rural areas and for close dialect groupings where back-translation needs local review.

Namibia is highly urbanized by regional standards, but its population is small and spread across a large territory. Windhoek carries the largest urban share, with Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Oshakati, and Rundu anchoring important coastal and northern coverage. National samples need explicit rural allocation and travel buffers, while targeted samples can cluster around Khomas, Erongo, and the north-central regions.

Mobile coverage supports phone surveys in towns and along main corridors, while online surveys fit urban and higher-income groups better than remote settlements. Face-to-face work must plan around long distances, gravel roads, and seasonal access in flood-prone northern areas. Public-sector or health studies commonly need ministry approval and ethics review, with fieldwork windows often planned for two to four weeks.
