French is the official language and the main language for government and written instruments. National interviewing usually needs Lingala, Swahili, Kikongo and Tshiluba, with many other languages for local work. Translation plans should assign languages by province and test oral phrasing carefully, because the same French concept can map differently across language zones.

Kinshasa is a very large national outlier, with Lubumbashi, Mbuji-Mayi, Kisangani and Goma also important. Many people live in rural or peri-urban settlements spread across forests, mining corridors, river systems and eastern highlands. National samples need province-level allocation, language zones and major access exclusions documented. Targeted samples should be narrower and operationally explicit.

Mobile coverage supports phone surveys in many populated corridors, but internet surveys heavily overrepresent urban connected users. Face-to-face work must consider vast distances, river and air logistics, rainy seasons and severe security constraints in parts of the east. Studies often need ministry, provincial and ethics approvals. Fieldwork commonly requires four to eight weeks.
