Arabic is the official language and the main language for government and public administration, while French remains common in business, higher education, and technical settings. National instruments usually need Tunisian Arabic for respondent-facing work, with Modern Standard Arabic or French versions for officials and professionals. Translation should handle spoken dialect, right-to-left Arabic script, and terms that differ from formal Arabic.

Tunisia is mostly urban, with Tunis and its surrounding governorates carrying the largest concentration, followed by Sfax, Sousse, Kairouan, Bizerte, and Gabes. Interior and southern areas include smaller towns and dispersed rural populations. National samples need coastal and interior balance, governorate stratification, and control for Greater Tunis, while targeted studies can focus on coastal metros or underserved inland regions.

Mobile and internet reach make phone and online surveys practical for many urban and educated groups, though online work still needs checks for age, income, and regional bias. Face-to-face fieldwork should plan around summer heat, Ramadan timing, local permissions, and travel to interior or border areas. Academic, health, or public studies commonly need ethics review or ministry authorization, often within two to four weeks.
