French is the official language and the main working language for government, permits, and formal research communication. For national respondent coverage, Ewe and Kabiye are central, with Mina, Tem, Gurma, and other local languages added by region. Translation should be prepared for oral interviewing, and back-translation needs reviewers who understand local terms used in markets, farming areas, and border communities.

Lome and the coastal Maritime region carry a large share of urban and commercial activity, while Kara, Sokode, Atakpame, and Dapaong are important regional centers. Rural populations remain spread through Plateaux, Centrale, Kara, and Savanes. National samples need a coastal and upcountry balance, while targeted studies should distinguish Lome metro, northern towns, and rural agricultural communities.

Mobile phones make short phone surveys practical, but online surveys mainly reach Lome, students, professionals, and connected urban residents. Face-to-face logistics should account for rains, road quality away from main corridors, market days, and local authority introductions. Public, health, education, and NGO studies commonly need ministry or ethics approvals, with collection windows often planned for two to four weeks.
