French is the official language and the working language of government, education and formal research materials. National respondent coverage may require Fang, Myene, Nzebi, Punu or other local languages depending on province. Translation should be prepared for oral administration, with back-translation checking whether French policy or service terms translate clearly into local usage.

Libreville and the surrounding Estuaire area carry a large share of the population, with Port-Gentil and Franceville as important secondary centers. Rural settlement is dispersed across forested provinces and transport corridors. National samples need Libreville as a distinct stratum plus provincial urban and rural clusters; targeted studies often focus on oil, mining, public-service or forest communities.

Mobile coverage is useful in cities and main roads, while online surveys are mainly urban and higher-income. Face-to-face work must account for rainforest travel, rainy seasons, river crossings and local administrative letters. Public-sector, health or protected-area studies may require ministry or ethics clearance. Fieldwork normally takes two to five weeks depending on provincial scope.
